PREPPING FOR YOUR TATTOO

HOT TIPS

  • Be sure to come clean. Germs are bad.

  • Shave any excess body hair in the area being tattooed.

  • Don’t wear your favourite stuff.

  • Wear articles of clothing that appropriately reveal where you’d like your tattoo. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

  • It’s important to keep your blood sugar up and stay hydrated during the tattoo procedure so eat before you come and feel free to bring drinks and snacks or anything else that will help you through the process i.e: head phones and music/movies, your own pillow or a buddy.

NO DRUGS, NO BOOZE, NO WHINING, NO EXCEPTIONS!

POST TATTOO

AFTERCARE

  • Keep tattoo wrapped over night…if wrap is still good in the a.m. leave for the day and plan for the next morning. Do not remove right before bed or you risk sticking to your sheets.

  • Unwrap the tattoo in the morning and rinse with a light hypoallergenic soap and water, in the shower is fine, then pat with paper towel and leave it to dry out for the day.

  • Before bed put on a thin layer of polysporin, you can do this over the next few nights but be sure not to over apply.

  • Following that, apply a light lotion, vitamin E or coconut oil or any other tattoo ointments twice a day until healed.

KEEP IN MIND, EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN VERSION OF HEALING AND AFTERCARE SO TAKE THESE TIPS AS A GUIDE BUT ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR BODY AND USE COMMON SENSE.

    THINGS TO AVOID

  • Soaking in water can be the worst thing for your tattoo. Avoid bath/hot tubs, swimming pools, lakes, saunas, steam rooms or any other bodies of water. Showers are ok, but it is important not to keep your fresh tattoo wet for long periods of time. This can prolong the healing time, cause excessive scabbing and even scarring.

  • If you have animals, keep them out of your bed for at least 2 weeks or until fully healed and keep them from coming into any contact with the tattoo.

  • Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight.

  • Do not pick the scabs or flaking. This will pull out ink … you’re not sneaky, we can tell.

  • Do not scratch, if the tattoo gets itchy, which it will, tap or gently rub with your hand.

  • Avoid heavy creams and/or ointments. Vaseline is bad, along with any other oil, lubrication or jelly that coats the skin and doesn’t absorb.

TATTOOING IS AN INVASIVE PROCEDURE LEAVING YOU SUSCEPTIBLE TO INFECTION, WE ARE NOT DOCTORS; IF YOU HAVE ANY SERIOUS ISSUES OR INFECTION, PLEASE CONSULT A PHYSICIAN.
